Breakwall Literary Journal
As design editor for Tri-Cās student newspaper, The Voice, I brought the creative vision to life with a cohesive layout. I balanced writers' content integrity with creative direction, staying true to my design style while enhancing the visuals' impact.
Color Palette
I followed Cuyahoga Community College's AP style guide, ensuring consistency in the color palette and alignment with previous layouts. The standout red color broke from the design, embodying brand boldness and energy while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.
Cover Design
The cover design was inspired by Evangelina Koukouras's poem "Paranoia | Blackout" on page 19 of the journal. I was moved by her use of blacked-out words, which highlighted the remaining text. This visual style connected with my own thoughts on how we often block out distractions to see more clearly. The cover symbolizes the strength in overcoming challenges and rising above the ordinary. I wanted to capture the idea of looking beyond the surface, aligning with the deeper themes in the journal's poems. The design conveys a message of resilience, showcasing the power of imagining not just what is, but what could be. This reflects both the journal's spirit and my personal philosophy as a designer.
