Project Scope: Editorial Feature (2 Spreads)
I had the opportunity to take part in designing for Tween Magazine. The project involved reimagining a feature from Tween Magazine that highlights "Real Girls Who Rock." The goal was to create a dynamic, empowering layout that spotlights Samantha’s strengths specifically her gymnastics skills while maintaining a fun, youthful tone for the summer magazine release.
Previous Feature Design
The objective of this project was to reimagine the Real Girls Who Rock feature. The only guidelines were to maintain the tie-dye aesthetic, infuse it with fun, and embrace bold, creative risks. Full artistic freedom was encouraged throughout the process.
Inspiration
My creative direction was inspired by an art-technique called Junk Journal. I envisioned Samantha telling her own story through imagery, using this style to express how much she truly rocks. To bring this vision to life, I used photo manipulation on the provided photography transforming the images into torn, collage-like pieces, reminiscent of childhood memories captured in scraps and fragments.
Photo Collaging / Vision Board
I also reflected on how children often begin creating vision boards at a young age sometimes without even realizing it. To capture that youthful spirit, I incorporated playful doodles reminiscent of childhood notebook sketches, where dreams and imagination take visual form. Additionally, I highlighted Samantha’s achievements in gymnastics, reinforcing the reason she was featured in the magazine and celebrating her aspirations in the sport.
